Where To Buy Sony HDR-CX100 AVCHD HD Camcorder with Smile Shutter & 10x Optical Zoom (Black)

I have a Flip. But I wanted something with optical zoom and more. I wanted a "real" camera. The flip hd is great! I can put it my car and have a camcorder at all times! But this Sony HDR CX100 is awesome! It shoots some incredibly good looking videos! I LOVE IT! I saw it at Target a couple weeks ago for 599 and I have been following this camcorder for a while on Amazon. When the price dropped to 331, I was sold! It zooms in really well AND the auto focus is REALLY AWESOME! It can zoom in up to 10x and focuses REALLY fast! You can point it at small text on your monitor or something and it will focus in on it really well! I LOVE THIS CAMCORDER! I really wanted something to record my daughters future birthday's and holidays. And this camera is great! You push one button, put a blank DVD in your laptop, and it makes a DVD that you can send to your friends and family. My Dad lives out-of-state, so this is an awesome feature!
MY ONLY COMPLAINT, is that the HD videos are in MTS (.m2ts) format. VLC will sort of play them on my laptop (it's a dual core 2.1 GHz with 3 GB of DDR3 ram. running windows 7 32bit.) The video is really choppy. But if you use the PMB software, it plays back fine. If you right-click on a HD video, you can convert it to MPG or WMV. But it's no longer HD after you convert it. YouTube and Facebook BOTH do NOT support .m2ts. That SUCKS! I keep putting the camera in SD (standard definition), because then it's a MPG video and everything supports that. If there is an easy way to get it from .m2ts to another more common HD file, please message me on facebook. my facebook username is Disturbed1

I like the Flip because it makes HD MP4 (720P) videos. I just wish I could convert these m2ts files into a HD MP4 or MKV file easily without installing some crappy, trial software. If anyone has this camera or a camcorder that makes .m2ts files, please message me on facebook, explaining how I can easily upload a HD video to youtube or facebook. Because right now I am forced to use SD mode, or use HD mode, and convert it to a MPG file that is NOT in HD.

If you shoot a video in 1080P with this camcorder and hook it up to your HDTV, IT LOOKS AWESOME! (oh, the HDMI port on this camcorder is a mini type. A normal HDMI cable, like for the xbox 360, will NOT work. It's too big. But you can use the RGB cables that it comes with and watch them in 720P or 1080i.)

The battery kinda sucks. One of the books that comes with the camera, had extra batteries. One was 199 bucks, but it was like 4 or 5 times bigger than the battery that comes with the camera. I am getting pretty short battery life out of this camera. It will say 80 or 90 minutes remaining when it's fully charged (shooting and zooming in HD FH mode), but it will quickly drain and you will have to charge it. I am GOING to get the bigger battery.

For 300 bucks, this thing is awesome! The auto focus is pretty much perfect and amazing, the 10x zoom is nice (I do wish it was 20x), it's got awesome face tracking, it's very small and lightweight (it's a little bulky in a pocket, but it's do-able!)

AS SOON AS Facebook or YouTube lets you upload the .m2ts files directly to there site, I will USE HD mode WAAAAYYYYY more. But for now, I am using SD mode because when you use the PMB program to convert the .m2ts to WMV or MPG, it loses it's quality and is no longer HD anyway. And no site will let you upload .m2ts files anyway. PEACE!

TURNS OUT Vimeo lets you upload .m2ts files! Guess they will have a new plus member shortly. muvee reveal has an addon that supports m2ts and then I just save it as a 1080P .MOV or whatever else I want.Get more detail about Sony HDR-CX100 AVCHD HD Camcorder with Smile Shutter & 10x Optical Zoom (Black).
